Home Description

Villa Solinga ( red building) is a wonderful villa with 300m2 living space situated directly on the water front. It was built in the early eighteenth century and has always belonged to the same Milanese family, who chose lake Como as their summer retreat to get away from the warm and humid town. At that time families travelled by train or carriage to Como and then further up the lake by boat and that implies that Villa Solinga was easier to reach by boat at that time The main road through the village Pognana is located approx 100 m. higher than the water edge and in fact you have to go down partly by steep steps or partly by a cobbled footpath to the gate of the villa , however to avoid this when you arrive and leave, ( luggage) we provide transport with our motorboat to the nearby jetty.

Villa Solinga has undergone many renovations but has maintained its "homey" atmosphere and is furnished with both family antiques and modern pieces.

From the water side you have to tackle a flight of stairs to arrive at the long terrace in front of the living room, dining room and kitchen. The terrace offers lots of space for outside dining and quiet corners to admire the beautiful lake and sunset. On the first floor is a double bedroom with adjoining sitting room with fireplace and shower room. On the second floor two double bedrooms with bathroom. On the upper floor is an open space bedroom with 3 beds.

By an outer winding stairs you reach a terrace with open air shower and furnished with deckchairs , this gives you again a lovely secluded spot for sunbathing

The Lombardy/Lake Como Area

Lake Como is at 200 mt above sealevel. Situated at the south side of the Alps it has a temperate climate and estremely sunny , in winter it hardly rains although we get now and then a minor snow fall, and the mountain tops remain white all through winter and early springtime.

Lake Como is an ideal place to pass your holidays: not far from Milan ( trade fairs), Como ( silk industry, and historical town , lively market 3 times a week) , surrounding mountains( for hiking, mountainbiking or a leisurely car drive up to panoramic view points), boat trips on the lake ( criscrossing from one village to the other), beautiful villas with parks open to the public ( Carlotta in Tremezzo for its azaleas), ( Balbinello in Lenno) ( Melzi in Bellagio)

Menaggio, Bellagio, Varenna, all places you have heard of and which you love to visit.

Pognana Lario area

Pognana Lario is a coastal village which has not very much changed since medieval times. It is built against the mountains, through the village runs the narrow motorway from Como to Bellagio. Lots of mountains footpath up to the alpine meadows, waterfalls in nearby Nesso or Villa Pliniana , some recently discovered caves . Villa Solinca is at the water side situated 200 mt underneath the main road.

At 10km is the town Como , interesting town , already known to the Romans and became a strong hold in medieval times , a cross point for trade between Lombardy , Austria and Switzerland.

Why should you not come to lake Como for its food? good local strong wines ( from vinyards against the sunny mountain slopes in Valtellina), misoltini ( a sun dried lake fish, accompanied by polenta), pizoccheri ( dark grain pasta) , rich cheeses etc.

These prices are for 3 double bedrooms ( max 6 persons). For every person more up to 9 persons we will increase our rental tariff in proportion .

All in : electricity, gas for cooking, warm water, linens, not included heating ( if required) will be calculated by the meter.

Refundable breakage deposit euro 500

Payment: half upon booking, half one month before arrival.

Change over day flexible , minimum stay one week.
