Casetta Mataross on Lake Como , near the Swiss border was one of the old farmhouses, which are scattered all over the slopes at a few 100 mt. above lake-level. It overlooks lake Como and mountains as far as the alps. The local rural population, not even so long ago, brought their animals, like sheep and goats up the mountains for grazing during the summer. The small house " Mataross" where the farmer stayed for the summer to watch over the animals, has now been transformed in a lovely little cottage. It is surrounded by a very large terraced garden ( 3000 m). Not far from the casetta is the main house, where the owners may stay over the weekend. The nearest village on the lake side is Pianello. A good narrow road winds through the forests and meadows and after 2.7 km you reach the house. It is less than 10 mins by car, and a very good footpath takes you in 20 mins down to the lake. Casetta Mataross ( 45 m2) is a fenced property with car parking inside the gate. On the main floor is a spacious terrace with dining table and deckchairs, living room with sat TV. An open fully equipped kitchen, dining area. There are two double bedrooms each with adjoining shower room . Central heating, barbecue area in the garden. |

Casetta Mataross is on lake Como, which is in the province of Lombardy. It borders Switzerland and is very near to both the flat land towards Milan ( Brianza) famous for its "design" industry in furniture etc and the high Alps towards Switzerland. The weather is very temperate on lake Como as we are sheltered from the cold winds of northern Europe and lake Como is 200 m above sea level ( over the Po valley), where in summer it can be quite warm and humid. Nothing of al that on the lakes here. |

by air: to Milan Malpensa or Linate airport ( 80 km) or To Bergamo( 130 km) for low-cost airlines Ryanair, Easyjet etc. by car from Switzerland Gotthard, Lugano, Porlezza, Menaggio, Pianello or by car from Switzerland Splugen pass, Chiavenna, Gravedona, Pianello. |

TV Further details indoors: The house has lots of large windows from where a " overall" view. you will like it! This is a place for a quiet holiday, for those who like walking and hiking, the hills and mountains are full of hiking tracks, taking you up to the meadows and high tops. From the garden you enjoy a beautiful view. The lake side is not far so a varied holiday for a swim and a walk. Pianello has a strip of sandy beach, pleasure harbor, sail and surf school, a few good restaurants, small supermarket. For extensive shopping Dongo ( 3km) or Menaggio ( 10 km). The town Como ( 40 km), Milan ( 80 km) Lugano ( 40 km) are worth a day trip and also the famous winter sport resort St. Moritz is at 90 mins by car.
