Home Description

Villa Ala di Levante is one of the oldest mansions in Menaggio . Menaggio is on lake Como not far from Milan near the Swiss border with Lugano, the house was built in the 17th century. It was embellished and modernized and is a wonderful house , where the family, that still owns it , passes part of the year. It has a very homely atmosphere and is exquisitely furnished. The living, dining room and kitchen are on the ground floor and have all French windows onto the garden. Although directly on the boulevard, a high hedge and lots of Mediterranean trees and bushes offer privacy and seclusion.

On the upper floor are 4 double bedrooms with bathroom ensuite. Two additional rooms sleeping 3 and sharing one bathroom are available upon request. You will adore opening up your window in the morning and enjoy the lovely view over lake and mountains. In front of Menaggio lays the well known Bellagio and Varenna.

The Lombardy Region

Lake Como is on the south side of the Swiss Alps and benefits from a sheltered position against the cold winds from northern Europe. The summers are warm ( 25-30 degrees C) but with a lovely breeze in the afternoons, autumn and springtime are adorable and winters coldish with nearly no rain. At midday you enjoy your cappuccino and read your paper in your garden or at a coffee-shop terrace.

Lake Como was already to the Romans ( Roman churches and archeological sites) , from 12th century the passes through the high alps leading from and into Italy were extensively used by the locals for trade or more or less peaceful wanderings. In the 18th century it was discovered by the rich Milanese families who built their summerhouses to get away from the humidity of the town. Some of these villa's are open to the public and their gardens are famous ( Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo, Villa Melzi in Bellagio, Villa Balbaniello in Lenno)

Menaggio area

Menaggio is for those who love mountains and lakeside relaxation.  Lake Como is surrounded by 1000 m. high mountains. Excellent for walking, hiking and biking, but also a relaxing drive in your car will make you discover medieval villages where lives seem to stand still.

Como , Milan, Bergamo, Lugano are worth a day trip, either for admiring historic buildings, or for shopping.
