Home Description

In a small 3 storey building with 7 apartments, on the first floor is this very charming apartment. You reach the building from the lake road taking a easy going - up path some 150 m long ( comfortable shoes and better two travel bags than one big suitcase!) . Once through the gate of the residence another flight of steps and you reach the flat which is on the first floor. You get to used to it and it is rewarding, the higher you go the more beautiful the view becomes!

The apartment is new, has a living room with small front-side balcony, one double bedroom ( twin bedded possible), kitchen and shower room. It is very accurately furnished.

The Lombardy Region

Carate Urio is on lake Como near the Swiss border and Milan.  It is a village on the lake side at 9km from Como-city. It has a small supermarket, bank, pharmacy, coffee shop , and a few good restaurants. There is a regular bus service with Como . Carate has also a boat stop for tourist boats to Como or to other villages along the lake such as Menaggio, Bellagio, Varenna etc.

In this part of lake Como there are no beaches, but only small gravel-stone patches of coastlines , where you can have a swim or sunbath. " Lido's" are sandy beaches with or without swimming pools, for which you have to pay an entrance fee.

Lots of things to do and see: boat trips, walking up the hills to churches and higher meadows, visit to Como-town with three times a market, Milan, Bergamo, Bellagio, Menaggio, Lugano all possible as a day trip. Even famous winter sport resorts ( but also wonderful in summer) such as St. Moritz are 120 minutes by car.

This part of lake Como is not "touristy" , people are friendly, you will enjoy the country side and wonderful small villages along the lake and higher up the mountains.

How to get there

Fly to Milan or Bergamo, both are also low budget airports ( Ryanair, Easyjet etc) , take the train to Como and bus to Carate.
By car through Switzerland ( Gotthard tunnel), cross the border at Chiasso, 4 km to Carate
By car through Italy: autostrada to Como
By car through east Switzerland, Splugen-San Bernardino pass, Lake Como towards Menaggio, Carate Urio
